Oswego County Solid Waste Facilities Announce Holiday Schedule

Oswego County Solid Waste Director Frank Visser announces the following holiday schedule for the county solid waste facilities:

All transfer stations, the Bristol Hill Landfill, and the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve; Saturday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day and Saturday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day. Transfer stations will be closed Monday, Jan. 3.

The Bristol Hill Landfill and the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) will be open for major haulers on Monday, Jan. 3.

The Energy Recovery Facility will remain open 24/7 to receive haulers on all of the above days. Haulers must have an active permit and swipe card.

Sandra Scott Travels: Get A Taste Of The Cooperstown Beverage Trail

When John and I were in Cooperstown, we visited the Ommergang Brewery, which is part of the Cooperstown Beverage Trail. It is New York State’s first official cuisine trail. Ommergang Brewery is located in a large building that is reminiscent of the breweries in Belgium. The tour of the Brew House points out the attention to detail in the production of Ommergang beers. The water comes from aquifers located on their property.

Porky and Buddy Pet Health – ‘Pushing Kittens Out The Door’

I am thinking about adopting a kitten, as my 18-year-old “Bumpkus” passed away last winter and there is a huge hole in my house that used to be filled with purrs (and fur). I just read that the Oswego County Humane Society is running a “Special” on kitten adoptions – you can adopt two kittens for $100 instead of the usual $200 that it would cost for the adoption fees. But do you think it is a good idea to adopt two kittens at once? Or is the Humane Society just trying to push kittens out the door with this special?
