Lady Bucs Have Fast Meet Vs. C-NS
Cicero-North Syracuse took the girls varsity swim meet against Oswego, 98-81 and on paper, dominated the day. But coach Josh Lerch says, “I think that we swam better.
“The Lady Bucs were fast tonight from top to bottom. Every swimmer was either right on or under their best time this season.”
Lerch said the three relay units all swam their best times, though only the 400 free relay team of seniors Mo Donovan and Katie Metcalf, junior Iveliz Lopez, and sophomore Mara Parker won their event.
Notable results included sophomore Meredith Moshier’s third-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, in a time that qualified her for the Section III meet for the first time. Her time of 6:11.97 was her best by ten seconds. Junior Sarah Miller also qualified for Sectionals in her first event this season, the 200 yard freestyle (2:17.88). Sophomore Haley Annal qualified for the first time in both the 200 yard individual medley (2:36.40) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.29).
Senior Mo Donovan swam best times in both the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.96) and the 100 yard freestyle (58.92). Sophomore Michaela Auer won the 100 yard breaststroke and recorded a lifetime best time in the 100 yard freestyle (59.34). Freshman Michaela Kearns (6:58.84) and eighth grader Chrissy Abare (6:36.00) swam best times in the 500 yard freestyle. Junior Iveliz Lopez had an impressive swim in the 200 yard individual medley (2:34.04), and finally, senior Emily Fountain swam the fastest 50 and 100 yard freestyles of her career.
“I was very impressed with the girls tonight,” Lerch said. “We’ve trained so hard and to see them pop out times like these is truly inspiring. I hope that our season continues to head in the same direction because this team is really starting to come together in competitions.”
