Oswego Council, Port Weighing Future Of International Marina
The city’s one-year lease deal with the port for the marina ends on June 30. The council is considering the port’s $2.1 million offer to purchase the waterfront property.
Our City of Oswego, like the rest of our state, faced a challenging year in 2010. Even though the economy did improve somewhat, it has not yet fully recovered. Despite these difficult economic conditions, many accomplishments were achieved and more will follow this year.
“Due to my work commitment, commencing on Monday (March 14) and continuing for approximately five weeks, it will be necessary to change my posted hours that I will be present in the mayor’s office to all day on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by appointment,” Mayor Randy Bateman said.
Oswego Town and the city of Oswego have differing views concerning the ambulance contract between the two municipalities. In a statement today (Dec. 23) to the media, the town board said the contract is intact through Dec. 31, 2012. However, the mayor points out the town supervisor sent a letter to the city giving official notification that they wanted to cancel the contract. He says it will expire Dec. 31, 2010.
Representatives from Harborfest and the city gathered Monday night to discuss what they could do to help each other – and save time and money in the process. The city is going to support Harborfest, according to Mayor Randy Bateman. “We’re just trying to decide at what extent,” he added.
Senator Darrel Aubertine was at the Common Council meeting Monday night to present the city with a $1,024,000 grant. The senator recognized the needs of the city’s DPW and these funds “will go a long way to provide the necessary resources the DPW needs,” Mayor Randy Bateman said.
Oswego city and county officials joined state representatives Friday as they announced state funding of $316,000 to help St. Luke Apartments install a solar power system and energy efficiency measures that will significantly reduce operating costs and energy use for the affordable housing complex for seniors and the disabled.
