Constellation Aids OCO Programs

Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) was the recipient of a $10,000 gift from Constellation in support of the agency’s many human services programs. The gift is part of Constellation’s commitment to supporting charitable organizations in the community it serves. OCO was nominated by Constellation Nine Mile Point Plant employee Jessica Piper as a result of the support and services OCO’s Services to Aid Families program (SAF) provided for a family member that was experiencing domestic violence. Striking Union Workers Speak At County Meeting

Members of IBEW Local 97 question the ability and training of the people currently operating Constellation Energy’s nuclear plants at Nine Mile Point. Some of the speaker urged the county to step in and get the two sides back to the bargaining table. Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry Leemann said the county is concerned about the situation and is willing to assist.

Pump Problem Starts Shutdown at Nine Mile One, but Repairs Bring Reactor Back

Photo © Constellation Energy Group, Inc. 2008The Nine Mile One nuclear power plant reactor began to be shut down Tuesday after workers discovered a problem with one of its backup power generators, according to the plant’s owner, Constellation Nuclear.

Spokesperson Jill Lyon says the shutdown was stopped and the plant was brought back to full power by midnight after the generator was fixed.

County, Scriba Moves On With Nuke Deal Without School District

“We haven’t reversed our position.  There is too much money left on the table,” the president of the Oswego school board said. They feel Nine Mile I should be paying closer to $18 million rather than $11 million. However, by not joining the one-year deal, reps from the county and town say the school district runs the risk of receiving even less.

County Approves One-Year PILOT With Constellation

The Oswego County Legislature voted 23-0-2 Thursday night to join the town of Scriba in accepting a one-year PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes) agreement with Constellation (owner of the Nine Mile Point Unit I nuclear power plant). Of the three entities involved, the town of Scriba voted to accept the deal while the Oswego City District Board of Education voted against it.
