State Police: 10/11/10

Autumn N. Lavanchard, 21, of Altmar was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and reckless endangerment for an incident that occurred at 5:08 p.m. in Albion.

William C. Amell, 59, of Dexter, was the driver in a one-vehicle accident on October 6 along Route 81 in Parish.  The investigation was closed Oct. 11 without a ticket being issued.

Jason D. Wheeler, 34, of Martville was charged with felony counts of falsifying business records and grand larceny above $3,000 for an incident first reported October 10 in the town of Hannibal.  He was arrested in Fulton.  He was ordered held for arraignment.

Bruce R. Allen, 66, of Fulton was the driver in a one-vehicle accident at about 8:45 p.m. along Route 34 in Hannibal.  The investigation was closed without a ticket being issued.

Anthony L. Pearse, 18, of Central Square was ticketed and released on a violation charge of marijuana possession at 11:51 p.m. October 11.

Sheriff’s Office, 10/30/09

On 10/28/09 at 2:02 p.m., Stacy L. Kasten, 26, of 3690 CR 57, Apt. D, Fulton, NY, was ticketed for Operating a Vehicle Without Insurance and Operation While Registration Suspended, following a traffic stop on CR 9 in the Town of Volney. She is scheduled to answer the charges before Town of Volney Court on 11/16/09.

On 10/29/09 at 12:58 p.m., Jeffrey B. Knudtson, 40, of 20 Birch Lane, Apt. A, Oswego, NY, was arrested based on a Fugitive From Justice Warrant issued by the Pierce County Sheriff’s office in the State of Washington charging him with Rape of a Child, First Degree. A joint investigation with the Puyallup Police Department in the State of Washington revealed Mr. Knudtson allegedly had sexual intercourse with a female, who was six years old at the time, in the Pierce County area during the year 1999. Mr. Knudtson was arraigned before the Hon. Kenneth Adkins, Town of Scriba Court, and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility without bail. He is scheduled to appear before Oswego County Court on 10/30/09.

On 10/29/09 at 6:26 p.m., Vell K. Smithers, 35, of 579 Biddlecum Road, Fulton, NY, was arrested at the Jamesville Penitentiary in Onondaga County based on a warrant issued by Town of Scriba Court charging him with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Second Degree. Mr. Smithers was arraigned before the Hon. Douglas Crouse, Town of Scriba Court, and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on 12/10/09. Mr. Smithers was processed and returned to the Jamesville Penitentiary.

On 10/29/09 at 1:56 p.m., Margaret K. Perry, 21, of 213 Ridge Rd., Oswego, NY was operating a 2007 Chevrolet south on SR 48 in the Town of Granby when the vehicle reportedly veered of the west side of the roadway, struck a culvert and a retaining wall before flipping onto it’s passenger side, sliding down the roadway and ended in the ditch. Ms. Perry was transported by ambulance to Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse. Driver inattention and animal action seem to have been contributing factors.

Sheriff’s Office, 10/29/09

On 10/28/09 at 11:56 p.m., Jeffrey A. Dillon, 40, of 50 Barker Rd., Central Square, NY was arrested for AUO, 3rd degree ( suspended on 10/10/09 for insurance lapse and license suspended four times on 9/1/07 for failure to answer summons out of the V/O Central Square Court ) and Registration Suspended following a traffic stop on US Rt. 11 in the Town of Hastings after the LPR unit alerted. Mr. Dillon was issued UTT’s, returnable to the T/O Hastings Court on 11/18/09.

On 10/28/09 at 9:50 p.m., Matthew R. Byler, 23, of Grove St., Watertown, NY was arrested based on a warrant issued by the Sandy Creek Town Court charging him with AUO, 3rd degree, after being turned over by the State Police out of Philadelphia, NY in the Town of Sandy Creek. Mr. Byler was arraigned before Hon. Judge Gracey, Town of Mexico Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $400.00 cash or $800.00 bond with a return to Mexico Court on 11/3/09.

On 10/29/09 at 12:30 a.m., Martin A. Banack, 22, of 2710 County Route 57, Fulton, NY was arrested for Criminal Mischief, 3rd degree, a class E felony following the investigation into a domestic dispute at a Town of Volney residence where he allegedly smashed a television with his hands. Mr. Banack was arraigned by the Hon. Judge Kerfien in the T/O Volney Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500.00 cash or $1000.00 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the T/O Volney Court on 11/2/09.

Sheriff’s Office, 10/28/09

On 10/24/09, Corey M. Bateman, 20, of 186 Tudo Road, Mexico, NY, was operating a 2003 GMC pickup truck westbound on Markowitz Road in the Town of Mexico at 6:30 a.m. when he reportedly drove off the roadway into a swamp, striking several trees with the right front of the vehicle, then leaving the scene. The incident occurred 2/10 of a mile east of LaRobardiere Road. Animal’s action is reported as a contributing factor in the incident with a deer allegedly running in front of the vehicle. Mr. Bateman was ticketed for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

On 10/27/09 at 7:39 p.m., Vanessa H. Wahrendorf, 24, of 112 E. Cayuga St., Oswego, NY, was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Third Degree (license suspended 9/23/09 for failing to answer a summons in the City of Fulton), and Passed a Red Signal, following a traffic stop on SR 481 in the City of Fulton. Ms. Wahrendorf was released on tickets returnable to Fulton City Court on 11/11/09.

On 10/27/09 at 9:15 p.m. Anthony E. Miller, 19, of 249 Peck Road, Pulaski, NY, was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Third Degree (license suspended 7/24/09 for failing to answer a summons in the Town of Richland), and Inadequate Lights, following a traffic stop on SR 104 in the Town of Scriba after he was observed driving a pickup truck with no passenger side headlight. Mr. Miller was issued tickets returnable to Town of Scriba Court on 11/12/09 and released to a third party.

On 10/28/09 at 12:45 a.m., a 14 year old male residing in the Town of Hannibal was issued a Juvenile Appearance Ticket based on charges that, if an adult, would constitute the crimes of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Seventh Degree, a class A misdemeanor; Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Third Degree, a class A misdemeanor; Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Third Degree, a class A misdemeanor; and Reckless Driving, an Unclassified Misdemeanor. The youth was instructed to contact the Oswego County Probation Department on 10/28/09 for further processing. The charges were the result of a vehicle pursuit that began when he allegedly ignored lights and sirens in an attempt to have him stop while operating a vehicle on Rathburn Road in the Town of Granby. Before he was observed driving, he had initially been observed sitting behind the wheel of the vehicle as it was parked with lights off in the parking lot at the Citgo Gas Station near Junior Avenue. The youth was reported to be driving at high rates of speed, allegedly not slowing or stopping for the intersections at CR 85, Furniss Station Road, or CR 20. He was finally halted when he failed to negotiate a left hand turn under the train trestle bridge as it narrowed to one lane in the Town of Oswego where he struck several trees straight ahead of him. The vehicle he was driving was reportedly taken without permission from his residence and the youth was found to be in possession of marijuana.

Sheriff’s Office: 10/27/09

On 10/23/09 at 8:04 p.m., Rachel C. Stark, 21, of 30 Van Horn Rd., Newton, NJ was operating a 2003 Volkswagen stopped at the intersection of Levitt Rd. and CR 1 in the Town of New Haven when she reportedly proceeded to turn onto CR 1 and was side swiped by a 2002 Dodge being operated by Matthew D. Clark, 19, of 769 Rathburn Rd., Oswego, NY. Ms. Stark was issued a ticket for Failure to Yield Right-of-Way at a Stop Sign Intersection.

On 10/25/09 at 11:05 p.m., Juan A. Rivera, 34, of 417 Buffalo St., Fulton, NY was arrested for Criminal Impersonation, 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor following the investigation into an incident which reportedly occurred at a T/O Hannibal residence where he allegedly gave a false name to patrol knowing he had active warrants out for his arrest with other law enforcement departments. Mr. Rivera was arraigned before Hon. Judge Dennison, Town of Hannibal Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500.00 cash or $1000.00 bond with a return to court date of 11/10/09.

On 10/26/09, James R. Bartoszewski, 28, of 8 Pine Street, Baldwinsville, NY was arrested at 5:10 a.m. for 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, Fourth Degree and AUO, Third Degree following the investigation into an incident that reportedly occurred at a T/O Granby residence where he allegedly punched a hole in the residence’s bathroom wall and put a hole in the bedroom closet door and while trying to avoid patrol, pushed the driver’s leg on the accelerator in the vehicle he was a passenger in.. Mr. Bartoszewski was arraigned in the T/O Granby Court and ROR’d, with a return to court date of 11/2/09.

On 10/26/09 at 6:16 p.m., a 17 year old female residing in the Town of Palermo was arrested on a Family Court Warrant issued by Oswego County Family Court. She was transported to a non secure detention facility in Volney and will re-appear in Family Court on 10/27/09.

On 10/26/09 at 1:53 p.m., Pablo A. Escamilla, 27, of Far Reach Dr. Bldg# 3207, Baldwinsville, NY was arrested for AUO, 2nd degree ( 4 suspensions on 4 dates) and License Plate Violation following a traffic stop on SR 481 in the Town of Schroeppel. Mr. Escamilla was issued UTT’s, returnable to the T/O Schroeppel Court on 11/25/09and then transported to Liverpool Police Dept. for further processing.

Sheriff’s Office: 10/26/09

On 10/23/09 at 8:18 a.m., Randy A. Schouten, 26, of 3273 US Route 11, Mexico, NY, was arrested at his residence based on a bench warrant issued by Oswego County Court, charging him with felony DWI. Mr. Schouten was arraigned before the Hon. Walter Hafner, Oswego County Court, and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on 1/11/09.

On 10/23/09 at 11:00 a.m., Charles R. Updike, 31, of 40 Barber St., Auburn, NY, was arrested at the Cayuga County Correctional Facility based on a warrant issued by Oswego City Court charging him with Criminal Contempt, Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Mr. Updike was arraigned before the Hon. James Metcalf, Oswego City Court, and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to answer the charge at a later date.

On 10/23/09 at 1:24 p.m., Jason M. Green 21, of 19 Whig Hill Road, West Monroe, NY, was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Third Degree (license suspended 10/04/09, twice, for failing to answer a summons in the Town of Clay and once on 7/15/09 for failing to answer a summons in the Town of Mexico); Operation While Registration Suspended (registration suspended 10/07/09 for invalid proof of insurance); and Operation Without Insurance, following a traffic stop after a License Plate Reader targeted his vehicle as he drove on CR 32 in the Town of Hastings. Mr. Green was arraigned before Village of Central Square Court and released on $250 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear before Town of Hastings Court on 11/04/09 to answer the charges.

On 10/23/09 at 7:59 p.m., Jeffery S. Miles, 44, of 290 Paradise Road, Fulton, NY, was served a Criminal Summons issued by Town of Palermo Court charging him with Harassment, Second Degree, a violation. Mr. Miles is scheduled to appear before Town of Palermo Court on 10/26/09 to answer the summons. The arrest stems from a domestic incident that occurred on 10/08/09 when he was accused of engaging in an argument, reportedly shaking the victim.

On 10/24/09, Darren J. Shuman, 21, of 400 Niles Pond Road, Honesdale, Pa., was operating a 2003 Dodge pickup truck westbound on Howard Road in the Town of Volney at 10:43 a.m. when he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of CR 176, then traveled through the intersection and collided with an southbound 2007 Ford suburban driven by Michael C. Carter, 38, of 4237 Mayfair Circle, Liverpool, NY. The impact caused the Dodge to slide down a ditch, coming to rest on its driver’s side while the Ford came to rest in the intersection. Unsafe speed and slippery pavement appear to have been contributing factors with road conditions reportedly wet from rain at the time. Mr. Shuman was ticketed for Failed to Stop for a Stop Sign.

On 10/24/09 at 1:06 p.m., William J. Murray, 51, of 285 SR 48, Fulton, NY, was arrested for Petit Larceny and Issuing a False Written Statement, both class A misdemeanors, after he allegedly stole cash from a vehicle he had towed during a drug investigation that took place in September, then denied in writing that he had stolen the cash. Mr. Murray was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge before Town of Granby Court on 11/09/09.

On 10/25/09, Theresa A. Akarpinar, 41, of 7623 SR 104 West, Lot 4, Oswego, NY, was parked on the east side of SR 48 in the Town of Granby at 1:55 p.m. when she collided with a 2009 Dodge being driven northbound on SR 48 by Erin McKinstry, 32, of 3779 CR 45, Oswego, NY. The incident occurred 50 feet north of CR 85 as Ms. Akarpinar reportedly attempted to enter the roadway to drive on the west side of SR 48. Mr. Akarpinar was ticketed for Failure to Yield Right of Way Entering Another Road.

Sheriff’s Office: 10/23/09

On 10/16/09 at 4:25 p.m., Jordan H. Trevett, 22, of 198 SR 183, Williamstown, NY was operating a 2006 Hyundai south on CR 17 in the Town of Amboy when he reportedly failed to see a 2005 Chrysler operated by Clara M. Loveland, 73, of Box 287 N. Hillsboro Rd., Camden, NY stopped to make a left hand turn, causing him to rear end her vehicle. Mr. Trevett was ticketed for Failure to Notify Commissioner of Change of Address. Following too closely seems to have been the contributing factor.

On 10/20/09 at 4:39 p.m., Benjamin W. Barry, 31, of 141 Kay Rd., Redfield, NY was operating a 1997 Dodge west on CR 2 in the Town of Orwell when a 1990 Infinity being operated by P H Michalczyk-Lupa, 17, of 1908 CR 2, Richland, NY pulled out of a private driveway and struck Mr. Barry’s vehicle. Mr. Michalczyk-Lupa was ticketed for Failure to Yield the Right- of – Way Entering a Roadway.

On 10/21/09 at 4:53 p.m., Laurianne M. Fleming, 26, of 9449 Chalkstone Course Bldg# 18 Apt # 12, Brewerton, NY was arrested for AUO, 3rd degree ( suspended twice on 9/20/09 for failure to answer summons in Ontario and Oswego County) and Speed in Zone following a traffic stop on SR 3 in the Town of Hannibal. Ms. Fleming was released on UTT’s, returnable to the T/O Hannibal Court on 11/10/09.

On 10/22/09 at 9:25 p.m., Brandon S. Merritt, 20, of CR 51A Bldg# 468, Oswego, NY was arrested for Menacing, 2nd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both class A misdemeanors following the investigation into an incident that reportedly occurred at a Town of Scriba residence where he allegedly threatened physical injury to an individual while displaying a knife. Mr. Merritt was arraigned in the T/O Scriba Court and ROR’d with a return to court date of 10/29/09.

On 10/22/09 at approximately 6:45 a.m., Deirdre M. Rogers, 47, of 7 Chapman Road, Mexico, NY, was operating a 2006 Hyundai westbound on SR 104B in the Town of New Haven when she lost control at the intersection of CR 6, drifting off the roadway onto the shoulder. In a reported attempt to recover, Ms. Rogers over-corrected, slid sideways through the intersection and overturned. She was airlifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to Upstate University Hospital. Alcohol was a contributing factor with Ms. Rogers being ticketed for Driving While Intoxicated and Crossing Road Hazard Markings. The incident remains under investigation at this time.

Sheriff’s Office: 10/22/09

On 10/19/09 at 11:30 p.m., a 16 year old male residing in the Town of Palermo was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana stemming from an incident in which reportedly occurred on 10/17/09 at a Town of Palermo residence where a marihuana plant was allegedly found. When patrol went to issue the male an appearance ticket he was found to allegedly be in possession once again he was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and issued another appearance ticket, both returnable to the Town of Palermo Court on 11/2/09.

On 10/20/09, Harold D. Smith, 36, of Rowlee Rd. Bldg# 630, Fulton, NY was arrested at 1:22 p.m. for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a MV, 3rd degree ( failure to pay child support) and Changing Lanes When Hazard following a traffic stop on CR 176 in the Town of Volney. Mr. Smith was issued UTT’s, returnable to the T/O Volney Court on 11/9/09.

On 10/21/09 at 10:10 a.m., Sheila J. Price, 24, of 17 Big Spring Road, Franklin, NJ was arrested at a Town of Williamstown residence based on a Fugitive From Justice Warrant issued by the State of New Jersey. Ms. Price was arraigned in the Albion Town Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility without bail awaiting extradition to NJ.

On 10/21/09 at 5:28 p.m., Keith E. Britton, 23, of 1770 CR 17, Williamstown, NY was arrested based on a warrant issued by the Williamstown Town Court charging him with DWI; Operating MV with BAC .08 of 1%; AUO, 1st ; Failure to Stop at Stop Sign and Illegal Signal. Mr. Britton was arraigned in Williamstown Town Court and ROR’d with a return to court date of 11/17/09.

On 10/21/09 at 11:18 p.m., Angelo D. Hernandez, 44, of 9 CR 32, Mallory, NY was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a MV, 3rd degree ( suspended on 1/16/08 for failure to pay fine in City of Watertown) and Sub-Standard Lights following a traffic stop on SR 69 in the Town of Parish. Mr. Hernandez was issued UTT’s, returnable to the T/O Parish Court on 11/10/09.

On 10/22/09, Patricia S. Friday, 56, of 416A West 5th Street, Oswego, NY was arrested at 12:34 a.m. based on a bench warrant issued by the Town of Scriba Court charging her with DWI. Ms. Friday was arraigned before Hon. Judge Adkins, T/O Scriba Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500.00 cash or $1000.00 bond. She is scheduled to reappear in court on 10/29/09.

Sheriff’s Office: 10/21/09

On 10/20/09 at 4:44 p.m., Jason T. McCaffery, 30, of 173 Shepard St., Rochester, NY was operating a 1998 Nissan east on SR 104 in the Town of Hannibal when a 1998 Oldsmobile being operated by Catherine M. Howell, 87, of 837 County Route 21, Hannibal, NY reportedly pulled into Mr. McCaffery’s lane at the intersection with CR 21 and the vehicles collided. Ms. Howell was transported by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Failure to yield the right of way seems to have been a contributing factor. This accident remains under investigation.

Hannibal Chef On The Ballot For Hannibal Town Council

Hannibal resident Gary D. Thompson Jr. is making a run for Hannibal Town Council. My goal if elected is to bring life back into Hannibal, give people a reason to stay within the community and give people a reason to come in. The reality is, it will be harder to hold the line on our taxes if there is no revenue being created, he said.

Oswego Council Eyes Potential Parking Revenue

An Oswego councilor suggested the city start looking now at what to do with several parking spaces currently leased by the college. The spots are north of Washington Boulevard on Sixth Avenue. They will revert back to the city Jan. 1, 2016 and will be a potential revenue source, he added.

An initiative sponsored by the American Red Cross, Holiday Mail for Heroes collects holiday cards, personally signed by donors, to distribute to soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines at military bases, veterans’ hospitals and other locations to let them know they are remembered and appreciated back home.

SUNY Walk-a-thon benefits United Way

More than 150 students and faculty walked through the pouring rain to assist United Way in its mission to end hunger, help youth succeed and improve the overall health and well-being of Oswego County. Organized by Vega, the Women’s Junior/Senior Honor Society, the walk-a-thon raised $745.
