OVIA Insurance Employees Assist with Fulton Little League Field Clean Up Day

FULTON, NY – Employees of the Fulton Office of OVIA Insurance Agencies were on hand recently at Fulton Kiwanis Kidhaven Park for the Fulton Little League “Field Clean Up Day.”

OVIA Insurance Agencies has traditionally sponsored a team in the Fulton Little League, and this season wanted to assist with the field clean up.

According to Jim Poindexter, Vice President of OVIA Insurance Agencies, one of the employees’ spouse even donated his time this spring to renovate the inside of the concession stand.

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego office of OVIA Insurance Agencies donated an entire Christmas dinner and gifts for children at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School recently.

It was part of the insurance agency’s annual holiday giving program.

OVIA’s Oswego employees traditionally select a school or local charity to make these donations to during the holiday season.

OVIA Acquires Bartlett’s Insurance

OSWEGO, NY – OVIA Insurance Agencies has announced the acquisition of Bartlett’s Insurance Agency, effective January 1, 2015, according to Chuck Harrington, OVIA President.

Bob Bartlett founded Bartlett’s Insurance in Oswego in 1949, and built a reputation for providing a broad line of insurance products and services to their clients.

Susan Bartlett, who is Bob’s daughter-in-law, has operated the business for years and just recently announced her retirement.

She is now working through the end of the year to assist OVIA Insurance Agencies on the transition.

“To ensure continuous and uninterrupted service to the Bartlett’s Insurance Agency customers, I have made provisions with OVIA to continue to service our accounts,” Bartlett said in a letter to her customers. “They have a history in the insurance industry that dates back more than 100 years, and I have every faith that you will find them as attentive to your account as I have been.”

First St. in Oswego will be only a block away from our former Bartlett location, or you can make arrangements to be serviced from any of their other five locations, in Fulton, Phoenix, Mexico, Brewerton or Clayton,” she said.”I would like to thank everyone for the business, confidence and loyalty that you have placed in me over the years.”

Amy Shaw Joins OVIA Fulton Office

Oswego, NY – Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies (OVIA) has announced that Amy Shaw has joined their Fulton office as a commercial lines manager, according to OVIA Treasurer Vern Drohan.

Ms. Shaw is a Fulton-native, and graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School.  She will provide OVIA with 13 years of insurance experience working with both personal and commercial lines of insurance.

Joe Laverghetta Joins Cantwell & Associates

Oswego, NY – Joe Laverghetta has joined Cantwell & Associates, an affiliate of Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies (OVIA), as a licensed insurance agent, according to OVIA President Chuck Harrington.

“We are very pleased to welcome Joe to our North Country team,” said Harrington. “He’s a great complement to Bob Cantwell and Joe Navarra in our Clayton, New York office, and will be a very strong asset with his industry experience and skill set.”

Joe LMr. Laverghetta will service clients in the Greater-Clayton and Watertown markets, and provides Cantwell & Associates with nearly a decade of underwriting experience in personal, commercial and life insurance.
Mr. Laverghetta most recently worked as a licensed insurance agent in Felts Mills, New York.

A 1990 graduate of Indian River Central School, Mr. Laverghetta attended Jefferson Community College where he received his Associates Degree in 1992, and later earned his Bachelors Degree in Communications from SUNY Oswego.

Cantwell & Associates Celebrates Successful First Year in Clayton

Dixon Earns NYS Property and Casualty Insurance License

OVIA Wins 2011 Golden Quote Award for Best Newsletter

Oswego, NY – Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies (OVIA) won a Golden Quotes Award recently in the Marketing/Public Relations Category for “Best Newsletter”, according to Chuck Harrington, OVIA President.

The awards show and dinner, which is presented annually by the Professional Journalists and Communicators of Oswego County (PJCOC) recognizes excellence in the county’s communication fields. This year the competition was held at Springside at Seneca Hill.

OVIA’s award-winning 2011 newsletter was developed in partnership with their marketing firm, Step One Creative. The newsletter, which is entitled “your OVIA”, showcased the insurance agency’s expansion into the Clayton market, as well as other information specific to home, auto, health and business insurance.

Joseph Navarra Joins Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies

Oswego, NY – Joseph Navarra of Watertown, New York, has joined the office of Cantwell & Associates, an affiliate of Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies, as a Marketing/Sales Representative, according to OVIA President Chuck Harrington.

“We’re very excited to have Joe join our team,” said Harrington. “He has great enthusiasm, passion for the industry, and over 25 years of insurance experience that will enable him to assist our organization in serving clients throughout Northern New York.”

Mr. Navarra will be primarily in the Watertown area with scheduled office hours in Clayton.

Mr. Navarra most recently served as Assistant Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Haylor, Freyer, and Coon, Inc., Northern Division.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Oswego, and completed his certification as an insurance counselor with The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. Mr. Navarra is also a member of Certified Insurance Counselors.

State Police Probe Armed Robbery At Oswego Town Kwik Fill

The New York State Police in Fulton are investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred on Thursday (July 30) at approximately 10:44 p.m. at the Kwik Fill located at 7559 State Route 104 in the town of Oswego. There are three suspects involved, all are white males, wearing black clothing and black head/face coverings, troopers said.

State Health Department Approves Certified Home Healthcare Agency Closure Plan

The Oswego County Health Department today (July 31) announced that the State Department of Health has approved its plan of closing the Certified Home Healthcare Agency. “Since 1966, Oswego County CHHA has provided services to thousands of county residents,” said County Legislator John Proud, District 7, Mexico, chairman of the Legislature’s Health Committee. “However, a number of financial issues, and elimination of state funding over the past several years, have affected the viability of the CHHA program. “

Bonnie Finnerty Named Sandy Creek Elementary School Principal

Bonnie Finnerty was recently named Sandy Creek Elementary School Principal. Finnerty replaces longtime Principal Sue Ann Archibee who retired at the close of the 2014-15 school year. Finnerty is very familiar with Oswego County having grown up in, and graduated from, neighboring Pulaski High School.
