H. Lee White Museum, NOAA, City, County Of Oswego Commemorate “Getaway Gertie”

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum recently joined Oswego County, the City of Oswego and the proposed Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council to host the “Getaway Gertie” commemoration on June 24. The event served as a public tribute to the lost crew of a B-24 Liberator bomber believed to have crashed into Lake Ontario during World War II training exercises. The four-engine bomber has never been found and was last heard flying low over the eastern shore of Great Lake Ontario during a snowstorm in February 1944. […]

County, Scriba Moves On With Nuke Deal Without School District

“We haven’t reversed our position.  There is too much money left on the table,” the president of the Oswego school board said. They feel Nine Mile I should be paying closer to $18 million rather than $11 million. However, by not joining the one-year deal, reps from the county and town say the school district runs the risk of receiving even less.

County Approves One-Year PILOT With Constellation

The Oswego County Legislature voted 23-0-2 Thursday night to join the town of Scriba in accepting a one-year PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes) agreement with Constellation (owner of the Nine Mile Point Unit I nuclear power plant). Of the three entities involved, the town of Scriba voted to accept the deal while the Oswego City District Board of Education voted against it.

District Growth Should Have Positive Effect On School Tax Bills, Superintendent Says

Taxpayers in the Fulton school district can expect to see a slightly lower school tax bill in the coming year. Superintendent Bill Lynch explained that the levy of $18,037,851 that was set Tuesday evening represents a 3.43 percent increase from the 2007-08 school year but is expected to result in an average tax rate decrease of 4.92 percent.
