Town Of Hastings Receives Recognition From Oswego County Legislature

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego County Legislature commended the Town of Hastings at its November meeting.

Under the direction of Town Supervisor Jim Weatherup and Director of Community Planning and Development Mark Bombardo, the town was awarded the “2012 Environmental Project of the Year” by the Central New York chapter of the American Public Works Association.

Town Of Hastings Receives Recognition

The Caughdenoy Sewer District Extension No. 1 Project replaced the 25-year-old sand filter treatment plant and made efficiency upgrades to the Fort Brewerton Plant.

Through this project, the town was able to make new public sewers available to houses along the Oneida River and to continue providing 500 additional households with sewer service.

Search Under Way For New OHS Principal

The unexpected resignation of Oswego High School Principal Erin Noto has left the district scrambling to find a replacement prior to the start of the new school year. “It was unexpected and we are in the process of considering an interim for that position while we conduct a search for a new principal,” Superintendent Ben Halsey said at Tuesday night’s school board meeting. It was a “professional decision on Ms. Noto’s part,” he added.

EEE found in Oswego County

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (Aug. 4) that the Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus was found in three mosquito samples collected during routine testing near the village of Central Square and the Toad Harbor Swamp near West Monroe. The samples were collected July 27 and July 29 by the Oswego County Health Department and tested at the state health department’s Wadsworth Center Laboratories near Albany. The samples of mosquitoes are the first to test positive for the EEE virus in Oswego County this year.

Annual Tennis Carnival Set At Riley School Court

AmeriCorps members have offered the USTA Tennis Program at several sites around the county this summer. “The carnival is exactly our end of the year celebration! We invite all of our children that have attended our program to come relax, have fun, and play tennis,” said Shane Evans, supervisor of the USTA Tennis Program.
