07/09/2010 – Children’s Glassworks Theatre Presents ‘The Hobbit’


p style=’margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Helvetica;’span style=’letter-spacing: 0.0px;’Children’s Glassworks Theatre will be holding drama camp Monday, July 5th thru Friday, July 9th from 9:00AM to 4:00PM daily at Cleveland Historical Society, the former St. James Episcopal Church, North Street, Cleveland, New York. This free camp is open to children ages 7-16 and campers will be involved with the Children’s Glassworks Theatre production of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” to be performed Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th. Tolkien is considered the “father” of modern fantasy literature. In 2008 The Times listed him sixth on a list of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945. Tolkien was born in South Africa in 1892 to British parents and moved to England at age 3. He studied language, literature, mythology, and the classics at Oxford and taught for many years at Oxford University. Tolkien wrote “The Hobbit” in the 1930’s as a bedtime story for his children.The book has never been out of print since the paper shortages of the Second World War.
