MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Oswego State wrestling team (3-11) closed out the regular season with a 43-6 loss at nationally 11th-ranked Wesleyan College (15-7) Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals recorded five pins, while seniors Omar Santiago (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Blake Fisher (Sr., Seaford, N.Y.) posted the Laker victories.
Santiago knocked off Christopher Siracusa, 8-4, at 133 pounds to make the score 6-3 in favor of Wesleyan after the first two bouts.
However, the Cardinals tallied two straight pins to go ahead 18-3 before Fisher stopped some of the momentum with a 6-0 win over Jacob Barack at 157 pounds. Fisher has won 12 consecutive matches dating back to Jan. 11.
Wesleyan went on to win the five remaining matches for the victory.
The Lakers will now compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on March 2 hosted by WPI in Worcester, Mass.
