2-Seat Supermodified Start the Feature Rides Nearing Sellout

OSWEGO, NY – If you want to Start the Feature in the Oswego Speedway 2-seat Supermodified you better book your ride quickly. “We have only a handful of Start the Feature rides left in the 2013 racing season,” said Roy Sova, coordinator of the 2-seat Supermodified. “There is one ride available in June, three in August and one in September.”

Start the Feature rides are already sold out in May and July.

The Oswego Speedway Start the Feature ride in the Canale Insurance 2-seat Supermodified is unique to all other start the feature rides offered elsewhere.

Unlike most tracks, where the ride-along car paces the field with the official pace vehicle, “at the Oswego Speedway you are actually part of the race field,” said Sova. “The car is rolled out onto the track with all of the other Supermodifieds in the starting field,” Sova continued, “it is pushed off with all the other starters, it runs hot laps with the others in the starting field, then falls into the 25th starting position on the grid. The 2-seat Supermodified takes the wave lap with the other cars, takes the white flag, and then pulls into the pits.” Sova added, “For the true Supermodified race fan this is something you absolutely have to experience. There is nothing that compares.”

Since the inception of the Start the Feature rides during the last race of the 2010 racing season, this ride has been totally sold out. “We expect the 2013 racing season to be no different,” said Sova.

This year the 2-seat Supermodified has taken on an entirely new look. An all new body has been put on the car in the Steve Gioia, Jr. Race Shop. During the off-season the car was stripped down to the bare frame, powder coated, gone through from stem to stern, and everything that needed repair or updating was fixed. The car has new seats and new seatbelts to go with the all new black body. Sova said, “Cathy Gioia did an absolutely fantastic job with the new graphics on the car, and with the sponsor logos. The car is a real looker.”

In addition to the Start the Feature rides, the Oswego Speedway also offers two rides during the intermission between the heats and features each race night. On at least two Saturday mornings each month you may also take a pre-practice ride. “All rides should be booked in advance,” said Sova, “particularly the Start the Feature and intermission rides. But we have been known to squeeze in some walk-ins when we have room on Saturday mornings.

One of the most popular events of the 2-seat Supermodified season is the Ride With the Legends program Classic Weekend. “Although we don’t announce who the drivers are until King of Wings Weekend,” said Sova, “several of those rides have already been sold so the people can be sure of getting first choice of the driver they most want to take a ride with. Ride With the Legends drivers are all with Hall of Fame drivers or Future Hall of Fame drivers, and have included Pat Abold, Eddie Bellinger, Joe Gosek, Davey Hamilton, Doug Heveron, Dave McKnight, Jamie Moore, Otto Sitterly, and Bentley Warren.”
