2008 Traveling Arts in the Parks Schedule

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau will sponsor several entertaining performances for children this summer through its Traveling Arts in the Park program. The events are free and open to the public. Most of the concerts will take place at municipal recreation programs.

Traveling Arts in the Parks is funded by the County of Oswego, the Oswego Children’s Board, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and participating town and city recreational programs.

Glenn Colton, a performing artist, songwriter and author, will perform at 1 p.m. July 8 at Scriba Town Park. Since 1992, Colton has performed over 5,000 high energy concerts. He believes in the power of healthy choices, and invites his young audiences to open their ears, their hearts, and their eyes. His body of work celebrates respect, responsibility, friendship, good manners, and many other character building traits that will help kids achieve a happy and abundant life.

Wacky Chad performs amazing stunts while telling ridiculous jokes in front of people of all ages. His stunts include riding a tall unicycle to balancing a shopping cart on his face and tricks with pogo sticks. He performs at 1 p.m. July 15 at Parish Elementary School; 10 a.m. July 18 at Cleveland Park; and 1 p.m. July 18 at the Freedom Skate/BMX Park in Mexico.

Doug Rougeux is a full time professional entertainer who has been performing BubbleMania! to rave reviews since the early ‘90s. He performs at 2 p.m. July 19 at the Granby Community Center.

The Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) Traveling Science Program features a colorful mix of science, education and entertainment and offers a chance to learn about various science topics firsthand. The MOST Traveling Science Program will perform at 11 a.m. July 28 at the City of Oswego School District Public Library.

Joe Trionfero, a professional entertainer for the past 30 years, presents assembly programs that specialize in character education for students in grades K through 12. Trionfero will perform July 23 at 10 a.m. at Maroun Elementary, Phoenix; July 30 at 1 p.m. at Taft Bay Park, Constantia; and Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers’ Market in Oswego.

The Magic of Cain will be presented at the Hannibal Library at 10 a.m. Aug. 14. Friends and fans also know him as the Wizard of Wands, Tex the Cowboy Magician, Professor Arcane, Mr. Millennium, Yo-Yo the Clown and Mr. Magic, and TV viewers have enjoyed his work on the PBS show “Pappyland,” televised nationally on The Learning Channel, and “Saturday Showboat,” produced by NBC’s Syracuse affiliate.
