When Dr. Laura Brown began offering students a service learning option in an introductory gerontology course in 1998, only a couple other Oswego courses challenged students to get out in the community to apply what they were learning in class.
Echoes is a program developed by Merry-Go-Round Playhouse to involve and encourage middle school students in the creative writing process. This group of performers use writing pieces from local middle school students and transform them into entertainment.
“Running for office is more like a marathon – not a sprint. It takes time to get your name out there and meet people,” she said. Jobs and the economy as well as other issues, such as border security, immigration, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid were discussed at the meeting.”
