FULTON, NY –The Fulton Music Association’s 20th Annual Celebration of Community Music will be presented on May 13 at 7 at the G. Ray Bodley High School auditorium.
This year’s concert is dedicated to the memory of Jordan Spier, 24, who lost his life in a February plane crash.
The 2017 FMA senior music awards will also be announced at this event and each recipient will perform.

In addition, the Fulton Community Band, under the direction of Carol Fox, and FMA scholarship winners will also be performing.
“Jordan Spier was a trumpeter who loved aviation, “ Fox said. “Our band selections are dedicated to his passion for flying. Among the numbers scheduled for that evening are: Aces High, Americans We, Glenn Miller, Trumpeter’s Lullaby, The Great Waldo Pepper, and a Frank Sinatra medley.”
The son of Dr. Daniel and Mary Spier, Jordan ‘s music played a big role in his life, Fox added.
“He started playing piano at age 7, and began playing trumpet in fifth grade. He played in band his entire school career and participated in GRB’s Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, All-County Band, Area All-State Band, and Fulton Community Band,” she said. “He was a FMA Music Award Winner, received the Louis A. Armstrong Award for Outstanding Musicianship in Jazz Ensemble, and he received the Class of 2010 Most Musical award. He was married to Chelsea Avery, also GRB graduate and a flautist in the band.”
All concert participants are generously donating their time to help raise funds for FMA, Steve Chirello, FMA president, said. “In addition to helping high school students receive FMA awards this spring, FMA members will continue to help sponsor Fulton’s summer concert series, and bring special performances by the U.S Army’s 10th Mountain Division Band right here to Fulton.”
