4-Year-Old Killed In House Fire in Hastings


HASTINGS, NY – State Police in Hastings are investigating a fatal residential fire at 68 Ball Road in the town of Hastings.

Troopers responded to the residence at 11:05 p.m. Sunday for a report of a structure fire with possible entrapment.

When troopers arrived at the residence, the house was fully engulfed in flames and were met by Lisa A. Carr, who stated her 4-year-old son, Randy L. Halsdorf, was unaccounted for and possibly trapped in a back bedroom.

Troopers and firefighters attempted to gain entry but were unable due to heavy smoke and flames blocking all entry points into the residence.

Randy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The following list of people were inside the residence when the fire started:

• Carter H. Halsdorf, age 5
• Roy F. Halsdorf, age 2
• Angel M. Knapp-Faulconer, age 4
• Kalah M. Knapp-Glerum, age 14
• Todd C. Halsdorf II, age 9, treated for smoke inhalation and released.
• Hailey M. Halsdorf, age 8
• Charity A. Knapp, age 35
• Kevin A. Furlong, age 32, treated for smoke inhalation and released.
• Lisa A. Carr, age 35, treated for smoke inhalation and released.
• Todd C. Halsdorf Sr., age 44, treated for Smoke Inhalation and released.

State Police Forensic Identification Unit along with the Oswego County Fire are still investigating to determine the cause and origin.

The following fire companies responded and assisted at the scene: West Monroe FD, Hastings FD, Central Square FD and Brewerton FD.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
