OSWEGO – The recent accomplishments of several Oswego High School students were music to the ears of Oswego City School District Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey and members of the board of education.
Participants in the recent New York State School Music Association’s Annual Conference All-State ensembles were recognized by Dr. Goewey and the BOE because their musical gifts continue to bring forth increased opportunities for growth.
Because those working in the district’s music department have strived to guide students with its student-centered mission, the talents of the six honorees have blossomed with each lesson, added practice time and invitation to special performances, such as NYSSMA Conference All-State.
Certificates of recognition were distributed by board of education president Aimee Callen and Dr. Goewey, who offered encouraging remarks to each honoree.
“Your participation in the Conference All State is a credit to your dedication to your craft and brings recognition to you, your teacher, the Oswego High School and the Oswego City School District,” he said.
During the Nov. 29 to Dec. 2 conference, the students were accompanied by OCSD music department team leader Robert Dumas as they rehearsed and performed with some of the top high school musicians and vocalists from throughout the state.
Out of the approximately 850 students selected to perform in various ensembles, Shameeka LaLiveres and Alyssa Adner performed in the treble chorus, while Daniel Emmons, Andrew Bornheimer and Liam Tovey performed in the mixed chorus. Jack Dodds participated in the symphonic band.
All honorees humbly accepted their certificates and received a standing ovation.
The recognition also came in celebration of March as Music in Our Schools Month.
