Oswego High School Play Festival To Feature ‘American Girl’ Theme

OSWEGO – The Oswego High School Drama Club will present an evening of student-written, directed and acted plays at 7:30 p.m. April 26 and 27 in the Robinson-Faust Theater at Oswego High School.

The new play festival touts an “American Girl” theme and aims to explore the emotional, intellectual and political aspects of being a young woman in 2019.

A similar play festival presented last spring was embraced by a community of supporters of the arts.

“It is important for the students to gain experience in the areas of play-writing and directing, not just acting,” said Garrett Heater, OHS Drama club co-adviser.

Former SUNY Oswego Theatre Department chairman Mark Cole will host a workshop for the student directors and actors, while Heater will provide guidance for the emerging playwrights.

Robert Dumas, OHS Drama club co-adviser, said the club, overall, “is proud to give students a platform for their voices to be heard.”

The student playwrights include: Derek Putnam, Alexandra Reith, Kat McGreevy, Zeida Olson and Jonathan Tsutsumishita. Student directors include: Aidan Thompson, Mitchell Hudson, Veronica Jones, Allie Griffin and Grace Hoffman. Student actors are: Alixander Pauldine, Liam Tovey, Gretchen Dowd, Katie Nettles, Abby Cook, Melanie Solano, Kendra Garvey, Tori Payne, Andrew Bornheimer and Audrey Hinman.

The run time for the collection of new plays is about 60 minutes.

General admission tickets are $5. Students may pay what they are able to for tickets. All tickets may be purchased by visiting: ohsboxoffice.ticketleap.com.
