OSWEGO – Several Oswego High School student athletes are well on their way to becoming fully prepared and life ready, thanks to the Oswego City School District’s academic and athletic programs.
Seniors Jordan Hare, Vanessa Flint, Sam Allen and Monica Cahill each have committed to playing college sports after their upcoming June graduation from OHS.
Stars inside the classroom and on the fields or courts, each student athlete has excelled throughout their time as a member of the school district.
Hare, who has committed to playing lacrosse at Barton College, is a three-sport athlete who has focused on lacrosse, soccer and bowling at OHS, while Flint is a two-sport athlete, having played soccer and volleyball. Flint has committed to playing soccer at Adelphi University.
Meanwhile, Allen has committed to playing baseball at Oswego State, after having played baseball and volleyball at OHS. Lastly, Cahill, a three-sport athlete who has been on the hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams, has committed to playing ice hockey at SUNY Cortland.
All four students participated in a signing ceremony, which took place recently in the OCSD administrative wing within Leighton Elementary School. Family members and school personnel celebrated their accomplishments and both OCSD Athletic Director Rhonda Bullard and OCSD Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey offered remarks.
“All four of these student athletes are top notch academically, athletically, and positive role models for all,” Bullard said. “Congratulations on where (they) are going.”
Dr. Goewey echoed that sentiment and said Hare, Flint, Allen and Cahill all are examples of the best of what the school district has to offer.
Bullard thanked each of the families for supporting the athletes thus far throughout their OCSD athletic journey. She distributed a Buccaneer blue lanyard to each of the four athletes because “Once a Buc, always a Buc,” no matter where life takes them. The student athletes were also encouraged to update the athletic department on all their collegiate accomplishments.
