A Bernstein Tribute Ends Oswego City Band Season

On Wednesday August 19th at 7:00pm in Breitbeck Park Oswego’s City Band, directed by Donald Goodness, will present a tribute to Leonard Bernstein.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Bernstein is regarded as one of the elite composers and conductors of the 20th century. He rose to national prominence as Conductor of the New York Philharmonic and later guest conducted orchestras around the world. His compositions are well known and are characterized by their rhythmic energy. In the 1950’s he served as host for a television series titled A Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra. Three of the Bernstein works to be performed are Overture to Candide, Danzon, and selections from West Side Story.

This concert is the final performance by City Band for the 2009 season of the annual Summer Sunset Concert Series. There will be one more free concert in the park the following week on August 26 with Stan Gosek and the Jazz Band. All are invited to these free concerts, rain or shine.

Don Goodness and City Band would like to thank all who attend these concerts and support them year after year. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience and thanks to the City of Oswego for continuing to support this program.
