A View of History: Erie St. School, 1955

Unstoppable local archivist Tom Tryniski brings us a look at the not-too-distant past.  It’s a class photo from Erie St. School, circa 1955.

Read the story to see what Tom’s added to the photo – a handwritten list of names that will probably contain the names of people or families you know.

As always, visit Tom’s website and satisfy your need for local history.

Hi Tom, My Aunt Margie (Bickford McEwen) brought your site to my attention at lunch yesterday. The “Unknown” second from the right in the top row is me … Fay Davis at the time. Do you know if this was the Kindergarten class or first grade? Memory fails me as to when I left Erie Street because we moved to Palermo. There’s a girl in the second row named Denise McKinney. I remember a Debbie McKinney I went to school with at Fairgrieve when we returned from Palermo and lived on Emery Street right near the school. She had a cousin named Denise but I thought she was a couple of years younger. Anyway, this was truly a wonderful treat for me. I now have a 6-year-old granddaughter who looks very much like me at that age. Would it be possible for me to buy a copy of this photo from you? Thanks. Fay Madigan 676-4672
