  1. The water works was run by Martin Dietrich (sp) and the men in the picture could be him and also my greatgrand father Rensselaer Dodge who had a farm across the street from the waterworks. Originally the pumps were powered by steam, thus the need for the large smoke stack and pile of coal visible in the picture. The standpipe shown in the background collapsed sometime around 1920. I remember playing on the hill when I was growing up.
