A series of concerts in styles ranging from jazz to finger-style, funk to Brazilian will highlight SUNY Oswego’s Guitar Symposium on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 8 and 9.
Performers will include Jeff Linsky, Oz Noy, Peter Bernstein, Frank Vignola and the Brasil Guitar Duo. Concerts will take place in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.
Linsky will showcase his finger-style guitar playing, blending classical, Latin and jazz styles, at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
At 4 p.m. Nov. 8, the Oz Noy Trio will feature the Israeli guitar prodigy’s fusion of jazz, blues, pop and rock music.
Bringing post-bop swing and jazz to the mix, the Peter Bernstein Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
The Brasil Guitar Duo will offer its virtuoso take on traditional and Brazilian guitar styles at 11 a.m. Nov. 9.
Spanning gypsy jazz to bluegrass, the Frank Vignola Quartet will conclude the symposium’s shows with 4 p.m. performance Nov. 9.
Tickets to individual shows cost $15 ($12 for seniors or students, $7 for SUNY Oswego students). A money-saving all-weekend concert pass would cost $60 ($40 for seniors or students, $25 for SUNY Oswego students). Anyone registered for the Guitar Symposium can see the concerts as part of that registration fee.
For evening and weekend events at SUNY Oswego, visitors may park in any campus lot free of charge.
In addition to the concerts, the SUNY Oswego Guitar Symposium offers two days of hands-on workshops by top performers and teachers of several genres. Early-bird registration for the entire symposium, which includes all-concert passes, is $95 for adults, $75 for seniors or students, $20 for SUNY Oswego students (registration cost increases by $20 after Oct. 24).
