Addiction Awareness Group Plans First Walk

OSWEGO, NY – The Addiction Awareness Group, started last year by Cori Welch and Amy Pelow, is planning its first Addiction Awareness Walk for August 21.

The walk is free and open to the public to spread awareness about the growing problem of addiction.

The walk will start and end at the Oswego Elks Lodge, with registration now open.

The day of the event, sign-in will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the walk will take place around downtown Oswego, followed by activities at the Elks Lodge including entertainment, food, raffles, vendors and education and information about support services available for those with an addiction and their family and friends.

In addition to Cori and Amy, who are mothers of addicts, Meggan Gauger is on the planning committee for this event.  Meggan is a former addict who now volunteers in the community to help others struggling with addiction.

If you would like to register to walk, donate funds, order a T-shirt, donate to the raffles, or volunteer to help, please contact Cori at 532-8518 or email [email protected]

The group meets every second Tuesday at the Prevention Offices of Farnham Family Services at 283 W. Second St.

The next meeting is slated for July 12.

All community members are welcome.
