OSWEGO, NY – Adelaide B. Ã¢â‚¬Å“BillieÃ¢â‚¬Â Smith, 96, a resident of BishopÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Commons, passed away Monday Sept. 14, 2009, at St. Luke Health Services.
She was a former resident of 161 E. Fifth St. in Oswego.
Mrs. Smith was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Simmons) Bland.
She was a life resident.
She was a graduate of Oswego High School and attended the Chaffee Business Institute.
In 1938, she was appointed confidential legal secretary to Supreme Court Justice D.P. Morehouse.
She married her husband, Elliott D. Smith, in 1941.
She served as treasurer for the Church of the Evangelist, and was a member of the church altar guild.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting, family, and sailing on Fair Haven Bay.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1985.
Surviving are a daughter, Naneen (Richard) Drosse of Minetto; a son, Elliott (Barbara) Smith of Fulton; five granddaughters, Siobhan, Vanessa, Deirdre, Ciara, and Caitlan; and two great-grandchildren, Ronan and Saoirse.
Services will be private.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
