OSWEGO, NY – The 2013 racing season saw the green flag this past weekend during the Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
After two full days of promoting the upcoming Steel Palace racing schedule, the Supermodified simulators provided by John Byrnes and Bob Garafolo of Oswego, managed to raise another $450 toward the Speedway’s foam block fund as well as the Kids on Track giveaway program for the coming year.
Ride participants were once again given 13-laps of racing at Oswego Speedway behind the wheel of a winged-Supermodified, which can be seen at the Speedway four times this season as a part of the ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries on May 4, June 8, July 13 and August 31.
After two jam packed days of competition on the simulators, it was defending Mr. Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super champion AJ Bernys setting the weekend’s fastest time with a lap of 16.005 seconds.
Domenic Gioia, a regular with the SUPRS.net online Supermodified series, clocked in second fastest at 16.038 seconds. Brandon Chretien, Kyle Young, and John Trenca completed the top five spots.
Between the National Parts Peddler Trade Show and Auction in November and last weekend’s Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo, a total of $960 was raised for the foam block and Kids on Track giveaway fund in 2013.
Race fans who would like to run the Supermodified simulation during the year have a couple options.
LaGraf’s Pub, located on East 10th Street in Oswego, holds a weekly simulation series on Thursday nights through the Speedway’s off-season.
The race software can be downloaded for a donation of $25, which goes toward the Dion Parish Memorial injured driver’s fund.
