By Dave Medler

FULTON, NY – Alan Johnson started 9th on the field and worked his way forward using all grooves of the Fulton Speedway getting by race long leader Roy Bresnahan on lap 20 of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature.

Once in the lead Johnson survived late cautions and a late charge from Pat Ward to park his Commercial Roofing and Sheet Metal, No.14j Bicknell in victory lane.

Other winners on WIX Filters 100 Nights Of Racing were, Jeremy Pitcher SUNY Canton Sportsman, Tim Sears Jr. NAPA Late Models, Tony Finch II E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, Joe Isabell Mod Lites and Jerry Herbert Four Cylinder Super Stocks.

Roy Bresnahan and Chris Hile led the field down to the green with Bresnahan grabbing the early lead in the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature.

With 10 laps complete Bresnahan opened a ten car length advantage running the bottom as Hile chased the leader running the top of the speedway. Matt Fink, Alan Johnson and Chuck Bower showed in the top-five on the scoring tower.

At the halfway point Bresnahan still was running a consistent quick lap’s out front. Johnson, who had moved to 2nd on lap 16, was the quickest car on the track as he set his sights on Bresnahan as he started to reel him

On lap 20 Johnson using the top of three and four blew by Bresnahan to be scored the new leader. Hile Pat Ward and Bower ran third through fifth.

With laps clicking off and 10 to go Johnson was running the bottom in turns one and two and the top in three and four opened a full straightaway lead on the field.

Two cautions came out on lap 26 and lap 28 slowed the pace down for a shootout to the finish.

Pat Ward moved to 2nd on lap 29 and had one last shot at Johnson for the win. Ward threw everything he had at Johnson pulling even on a couple laps. Johnson seeing Ward adjusted his line and slammed the door on Ward taking away his momentum as he was the first under the checkers. Ryan Phelps, Billy Decker and Chris Hile rounded out the top-five.

With his 2nd place finish Pat Ward received the Rudy’s Hard Charger Award.

“Pat (Ward) has been awful fast at Utica-Rome and Last night (Brewerton). When I saw him up there I figured it was the end,” said Alan Johnson about seeing Pat Ward late in the going. I tried something different in three and four, I was just lucky enough to hold him off.”

Johnson also related his success this year is from having a full crew. In the past couple years he and another guy maintained the car and they tried to race to much and it took its toll physically and on resources.

In the 20 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature, Stewart Garrison and Michael Teachout led the early laps before Jordan Bennett took the top spot just before halfway. Jeremy Pitcher who started 12th moved into the runner-up spot with 6 laps to go setting up a dash to the finish with Bennett.

Over the remaining laps Bennett hit his marks running the bottom leaving Pitcher only the top of the speedway for a shot at the win. On the final lap going into three and four, Pitcher drove it to the top carrying enough speed to pull even with Bennett for the drag race to the checkers. At the finish Pitcher took the win by inches over Bennett. Tim Sears Jr., Michael Teachout and Bob Henry Jr. rounded out the top-five.

Tim Sears Jr. started at the back of the field in the 20 lap NAPA Late Model feature after running into problems in his heat race. Sears avoided an early skirmish moving into 2nd by lap-six. Sears then battled with Dale Caswell before taking the lead at the halfway point. Once in the lead Sears drove away for his fourth win of the season tying him for the point lead with Caswell. Caswell, Larry Wight and Bodie Bellinger rounded out the top-five.

Tony Finch II took the lead at the drop of the green in the 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman main and was never seriously challenged. Ron Davis III, Scott Ford, CJ Castelletti and Matt Chapman chased Finch across the line.

Joe Isabell jumped behind the wheel of his dad’s mod lite and was the class of the field in the 20 lap feature picking up his fourth victory of the season at the Fulton Speedway. Mike Mullen, Jeff Isabell Jr., Lowell Zehr and Gary Jeffries rounded out the top-five.

Jerry Herbert took the lead on lap 5 of the Four Cylinder Stock feature and out distanced the field for his fourth win of the season and lengthening his point lead. Keith Zirbel, Eric M Zirbel, Jeff Warner and Eric Gates Jr. chased Herbert to the checkers.
