Alliance Bank Awards Grant for Book Group

Alliance Bank has granted the Senior Book Discussion Group $1,000.

The group is sponsored by Oswego County Visually Impaired (OCVI) and Aurora of Central New York, a nonprofit that serves people in central New York who have vision and hearing loss. It is hosted by Springside at Seneca Hill.

“Alliance Bank NA understands the importance for individuals to remain active and vital in every capacity. Having the opportunity to find ways for individuals with visual impairments to get together for reading groups is just one of those ways. We appreciate the opportunity to assist in this very worthwhile program, said Barbara Bateman, senior vice president of Alliance Bank.

“We are extremely grateful to have this grant from Alliance Bank. It will allow us to keep up the momentum, because the group has been so successful,” said Laura Smith, president of OCVI. The book group has been meeting since December 2009.

The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month, from 10:30 a.m. until noon, in the library at Springside at Seneca Hill. Free transportation is available through Call-N-Ride for those with vision loss. For more information, call Smith at 343-4781 or Anne Costa at 422-7263, ext. 250.
