Scheduled for Aug. 13 and 14, Catholic Charities of Oswego County’s Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament serves as a fundraiser for the agency’s food pantry and CYO program.

“We are happy to once again welcome Alliance Bank as a major sponsor of our Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament. In addition to their monetary support, Jolene Bechtel of Alliance Bank has donated her time and talents as a committee member for the event and has been actively involved in the planning and preparation for this fundraiser,” said Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Mary-Margaret Pezzella-Pekow.

Committee members are looking forward to a full slate of teams and plenty of spectators as all proceeds from the event will benefit two of Catholic Charities’ most accessed programs, the food pantry and CYO.

Last year, Catholic Charities’ food pantry served more than 13,000 people and provided more than 77,000 meals to families in need in Oswego County.

The CYO program, which is more popular than ever with area youth, offers a wide variety of recreational and educational programs including a mentoring program for elementary and high school students.

This year’s tournament has expanded to a two-day event and features a round-robin format that will allow for more teams and more games for each team.

Beginning each day at 10 a.m. the event will be hosted by Cheap Seats Sports Bar & Grille, 6 Hillside Ave. and will pit 12 teams, 6 players per team, in a round-robin tournament with the opportunity to win prizes of $250 for first place and $150 for second place.

To add to the fun there will also be a bag auction and a 50 / 50 drawing.

In addition, Lee Victory, owner of Cheap Seats, will also donate 20 % of all food and beverage sales during both days of the tournament to Catholic Charities of Oswego County.

Pezzella-Pekow is pleased with the level of support the event has received to date and is looking forward to the tournament.

“Thanks to our major sponsors, Alliance Bank, Burritt Motors, and Cheap Seats Sports Bar & Grille we have been able to expand our tournament and offer two days of fun and friendly competition for a good cause. With the increasing demand we are experiencing at our food pantry and the budget cuts that have placed our CYO program in jeopardy, we are hoping that this fundraiser will help provide much needed support for these programs. I invite the community to join us for our second annual Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament. Whether you’re a player or a spectator, you’re sure to have a great time!”

For more information or to register a team, call Gail Cooper at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, 315-589-3980, ext. 225.

Registration fee is $150 per team.
