TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. – Officials of Shangri-La II Motor Speedway have announced the booking of the Allison Legacy Series North as part of the Saturday program at the Great American Classic weekend, July 3-4. The 3/4 scale stock cars will join the tour-type Modifieds and the track’s Street Stock division in action that day.
The Great American Classic continues on Sunday, July 4, with ASA Late Models, Sportsman Modifieds, RoC-style Super Stocks, and INEX Legends in action. Both days will see gates open at 1:00 p.m., practice at 3:00 p.m., and racing at 5:00 p.m.
The Allison Legacy cars have been produced since 1995 by Allison Brothers Racing in Salisbury, N.C., owned by the three sons of NASCAR great Donnie Allison. Carrying modern stock-appearing bodies, the Legacy cars use a sealed, 120 horsepower Mazda engine and weigh 1425 pounds, making them similar to the INEX Legends in their power-to-weight ratio.
So far in the 2010 the Allison Legacy Series North has raced at Waterford, Conn., Monadnock, N.H., and Seekonk, Mass. While most of the drivers are from New England, the point leader, Paul Tuthill, makes his home in Washingtonville, N.Y., near Middletown.
“The INEX Legends have become a fan favorite here at Shangri-La II, with close racing in the draft and last-lap lead changes. While they look more contemporary, the Allison Legacy cars share the same philosophy and we look forward to a good show from them as we celebrate our first birthday on our nation’s birthday,” said track manager Amy Stilson.
Fans planning to stay for both days of the Great American Classic are reminded that camping is free on the grounds of Shangri-La II Motor Speedway outside the ticket gates. For more information, visit shangrila-2.com or call 607-330-2622.
