OSWEGO, NY – This summer, AmeriCorps member Daisy Ruiz has been working with the Oswego YMCA Day Camp at Camp Hollis.
She has been working with children between the age of 9 and 13.
So far, she’s worked with roughly 60 children.
Oswego County AmeriCorps focuses on health and nutrition.
The children at camp do activities such as volleyball, yoga and tag.
One concept that Daisy has been trying to stress is the importance of washing hands.
The children enjoyed doing an activity where they put “Glo germ” on their hands. It makes their hands glow under a UV light.
The children found it to be very fun and gross at the same time.
Daisy enjoys working with children of all ages and teaching them the importance of eating healthy and staying active.
The Oswego County AmeriCorps focuses on services for children and families.
Members mentor youth, provide fitness and nutrition education activities for youth, and manage volunteers who serve their community.
This year, 63 members will serve at schools, libraries, recreation programs and human service agencies throughout the county.
