SCRIBA – Recently, AmeriCorps members Julia Preston-Fulton and Liz Larkin, along with a few brave volunteers, took to Independence Trail for a bit of spring cleaning.
Despite the rain, quite a bit of the main trail was uncovered and expanded.
The volunteers were committed to the cause and it certainly showed in the amount of progress that was made.
It was made clear from this venture that there still is quite a bit of work to be done. And, you too can have the opportunity to help be a part of making this gorgeous spot accessible for all.
Over the summer, they will be hosting clean-up days every Monday, beginning in late June.
They will be clearing and widening the trails, removing pesky pricker bushes, repairing a few boardwalks, trash removal and anything else necessary to make it as functional as we can.
If you’d like to be a part of this venture or have any questions, please contact Liz at 315-349-8682.
Pre-registration isn’t necessary, but it is helpful.
All ages and abilities are welcome.
Some tools and work gloves will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own.
Independence Trail parking area is located on Riker’s Beach Road, off of County Route 1A in Scriba.
