Granby Elementary School in Fulton held their fourth annual Mother’s Day Ice Cream Social on Friday, May 9th. This year, the event was a Mother/Daughter Social. The Granby students and their mothers enjoyed ice cream sundaes, a variety of board games, face painting, and several door prize drawings. The winners received door prizes donated from local businesses and Granby staff members. Each mother and daughter also posed for a photograph that will later be sent home in a special Mother’s Day card for the family to keep as a memento.

Staff members volunteered their time to serve ice cream, paint the students’ faces, and coordinate the activities for the Friday evening event. The cafeteria, where the event was held, was decorated with beautiful hand painted placemats created by the students in art class.

“Each year the Granby staff members pull this together,” Barb Hubbard, principal at Granby told the mothers and daughters, “I want to thank my Granby staff member for doing this.” Adding to the staff, “You are the best!” Hubbard was asked to find a poem to read to the mothers at the social. “I found two,” she said to the group, “I’m an over achiever!”

Approximately 200 mothers and daughters enjoyed the celebration. Each year, the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events are rotated from Mother/Daughter and Father/Son to Mother/Son and Father/Daughter to include more families. Father/Son night will be held on June 13th. For information, contact the school at 593-5480.
