OSWEGO, NY – Before settling down to eat your turkey or prepare your house for guests this Thanksgiving, why not get a little exercise in and help the Salvation Army and Human Concern Center of Oswego?
Every Thanksgiving morning, a group of runners and walkers meet at the Oswego YMCA to do a 5K run/walk before dinner.
It’s open to the public and everyone in the community is welcome to join.
What began as a handful of friends running together on Thanksgiving morning has grown into a popular family and community event.
The entry fee to participate in this event is a donation of a non-perishable food item that will be brought to the Salvation Army and Human Concern Center.
With more than 150 people participating last year, there were enough food donations to fill the back of a truck.
These donations helped to feed many local people in need during the holiday season.
Items needed by the Salvation Army and Human Concerns include (but are not limited to):
– Canned soups, chili, and stew
– Canned tuna
– Canned fruits and vegetables
– Tomato sauce
– Pancake mix
– Peanut butter
– 100% juice
There is no registration to participate in this event (other than your food donation) and there is no clock timing you.
You could even win a pie to bring home to your family for Thanksgiving dinner.
But only with a stroke of luck, as winners are randomly selected to keep the possibilities open for all!
Join the Run for the Pies this Thanksgiving, November 27.
Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Oswego YMCA Main Building (location change) and the run/walk begins at 9 a.m.
Go for a run or walk and give back to the community on this day of thanks.
We hope to see you there!
