Annual Women’s Conference Focuses on Overcoming Fear

By: Joleene DesRosiers Moody, Contributing Writer
OSWEGO, NY – The seventh Annual Connections Women’s Symposium is next month. If you are a woman in business, a woman considering going into business, or a woman looking to network to learn more what it’s like to run a business, this is an event you need to mark on your calendar.

This year’s keynote speaker: Susan Bertrand.

The networking event titled, “Overcoming Fear – Managing Risk – Maintaining Growth” is slated for Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the American Foundry on Route 104 in Oswego.

Connection co-chair Evelyn LiVoti said the event is a vital part of women in business in Oswego County.

“It’s important because there are a lot of women in business in the area and there really hasn’t been a lot of support for those women in Oswego County,” she said. “In Syracuse there are quite a few symposiums that are considered local for women in business, so we felt we needed something more local for this county.”

The symposium provides attendees with networking opportunities, resources for business of all ages and powerful advice from professional speakers.

“Women can connect with other women to talk about possible business ventures and to share ideas to help them grow their business. It gives them the opportunity to learn from other people and really, that is a great asset,” LiVoti said. “They will see they don’t have to do this alone. They can coordinate with someone else and even talk about exchanging services.”

This year’s keynote speaker is Susan Bertrand, president of Maureen’s Hope Foundation.

She will talk about the fears she conquered during the growth of the foundation, as well as in her personal life.

Other speakers include:

  • JoBeth Dellinger of Artisit Pianos, Ltd.
  • Dr. Mary Starr Carter, The Total Wellness Doc and Mom.
  • Sherry Auble, Savvy Sales and Marketing Pro.
  • Joleene DesRosiers Moody, of ‘Joleene Speaks’: Transformational Speaker, Author and Life Coach.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney speaks during a previous Connections event at the Sheldon Hall Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego Campus.
