OSWEGO, NY – The Professional Journalists and Communicators of Oswego County is looking for Oswego County high school seniors to apply for the annual Muriel Allerton Scholarship Award.
Applications for the $1,000 prize are being accepted from those planning to continue their education in a communications-related field.
Eligible candidates must send a letter of application that includes the college or university they will be attending as well as their course of study.
They must also include two writing samples or a portfolio of their completed work as it relates to their chosen major.
Applicants must also send two letters of professional recommendation from teachers, mentors, or employers.
All applications must by typed and neatly organized with a cover sheet that lists the student’s name, address, phone number and high school.
Incomplete entries will not be considered.
Submissions should be sent to PJC of Oswego County, PO Box 3002, Oswego, NY 13126 and must be postmarked by May 11.
The scholarship will be awarded based on the level of interest that applicants have demonstrated in their chosen field of study and the aptitude and proficiency each has displayed during his or her high school career.
Past award recipients include students who chose careers in print or broadcast journalism, public relations, advertising or graphic design.
The winner will receive the award at the PJC’s annual scholarship dinner in June.
