OSWEGO, NY – Zink Shirts, 19 E. Cayuga St., will hold an opening for Rochester controversial surrealist artist, Sean Madden. The opening event will begin March 8 at 8 p.m.
The show will run for the month of March.
Madden will discuss his art with the audience, sign and sell copies of his books and prints, and perform with his jazz fusion trio, “NOD.”
Beverages and snacks will be served during the event.
Madden will be showing a significant amount of new oils and pen and inks at the show, in addition to older pieces that are crowd favorites.
Madden’s risque and blasphemous artwork has been exhibited and published worldwide.
He currently has work in galleries LA, NYC, Buffalo, and Rochester.
He has illustrated sci-fi and horror magazines, underground comics, and urban clothing.
Madden has exhibited very successfully in other cities, but this is the artist’s first major show in Oswego.
Madden is also the head writer for the internationally distributed art magazine, CHURN.
His book, Beyond the Sun, is a bold collection of unapologetically dark and twisted pen and ink art.
Much of it is very graphic and psycho-representational, necessitating a Parental Advisory warning on the front cover.
The book is 63 pages and includes old photos of Madden, newspaper clippings from the Buffalo Evening News, the Democrat and Chronicle and other newspapers and the artist’s own personal philosophy on the joys and struggles of being an artist in an unappreciative societal context.
“NOD” will play psychedelic acid jazz at the opening, and will feature Madden on 7-string guitar.
Madden has more than 30 years of experience entertaining audiences in jazz and rock clubs.
