FULTON – For those not personally attending the March sporting event, CNY Arts Center is preparing a little madness of its own at the downtown Arts HotSpot with weekend events for all ages throughout the month from music and comedy, to a new author in the mix.

The CNY Arts Center Hotspot is located at 47 S. First St., across from the city gazebo.

St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. will launch the debut of Slouch Hat Comedy Improv troupe, a select group of kids aged 7-16.

The youth have been fine tuning their funny bones for several months and are ready to take on the audience best suggestions for comedy on the spot.

Tickets are available at the door.

Slouch Hat will be followed by Top Hat Comedy Troupe, the adult (for mature audiences 17+) improv company who will continue the laughs at 8:30 p.m.

The evening of comedy is a quarterly event for CNY Arts Center and helps actors hone their skills and wit with funny, often unpredictable outcomes.

It will be a night of laughs and good friends!

Tickets available at the door, discounted if attending both youth and adult shows.

Author Spotlight, another quarterly event that features visiting authors from the CNY region returns the following day, March 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the same location.

The event will spotlight local resident Patti Bucher, who had her first book published in October 2017.

A is for Andy is a children’s alphabet book that makes learning fun with rhyming words and colorful pictures.

Bucher is pleased to offer her book to the public with the hopes of benefitting children as a learning tool.

In addition to being an author, Bucher is a Registered Nurse, wife and mother of Andy and Matt, who inspired her to write this book.

Author Spotlight is a Q&A style event with book signing and is always free to the public.

The final weekend sees the return of monthly events Talent Share open mic and Writers’ Café.

Guest director Cara D’Emanuele, a Rochester-based full-time, professional director/musical director and voice/acting/audition coach, will attend Talent Share to offer a free musical theatre audition workshop open to anyone in the area.

She will bring tips and techniques, and help polish anyone preparing for an upcoming audition such as White Christmas auditions in April.

The workshop is free.

She holds a BA in Music Education from Wagner College in NYC and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University with over 30 years’ experience in musical theatre, having directed and/or musical directed more than 150 musicals for professional theatres, educational theatres, public and private schools, and her own production company.

Her most recent directing experiences were as director for Annie, Jr. at The Kanack School of Music in Rochester (August 2017), as musical director for a production of Urinetown at The 14th Street Y in Manhattan (July 2017), and as musical director for a community theatre production of Annie Get Your Gun at Waterman’s Theatre in North Haven, Maine (August 2015).

She spends time each month coaching privately and teaching classes and workshops in Syracuse.

Talent Share takes place on March 24 from 7-10 p.m., with Writers’ Café March 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Writers’ Café, a monthly group to share, network, and get to know other writers in the community, is free and open to the public.
