OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Health presents Renante Ignacio M.D, a specialist in hospice, palliative care and geriatric medicine at an Ask the Doctor presentation to be held at 6 p.m. March 21st in the lower level conference room of the Oswego Health Services Center, which is adjacent to Oswego Hospital.
During his presentation, Dr. Ignacio will discuss how to handle end of life care when it arrives unexpectedly, advanced care planning and how to discuss your final wishes with family members. He will also talk about the new laws impacting palliative care.
“It is very important for families to discuss end of life issues,” Dr. Ignacio said. “It is a gift for the patient and the family that assures that when the time comes, the wishes of the patient are honored.”
At the Ask the Doctor presentation, copies of advance directives, such as the Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) and health care proxies will be available.
Dr. Ignacio is a palliative care consultant at Oswego Hospital.
He also serves as a medical director in various Oswego skilled nursing facilities and is the staff physician at the Manor at Seneca Hill. He is board certified in hospice and palliative care medicine, and is certified in geriatric medicine.
He completed his residency work in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, and his fellowship in geriatrics at SUNY Stony Brook. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
