Attention K-Mart shoppers: Lanigan students shop for needy children

Third grade students from Lanigan Elementary School in the Fulton City School District recently visited their local K-Mart store with a selfless mission in mind: buy toys for needy children in the area.

A group of third graders from Lanigan Elementary stopped for a moment before checking out at the register at K-mart following their shopping trip at the store to purchase gifts for needy children in the area. Pictured are: in front kneeling, Jade Doran; standing, left to right: Courtney Pierce, Virginia Bednarski, Maya Gugula, and Christina Tallents; in back is chaperone Brandy Bednarski.

The students held a Spell-a-thon where they used pledge sheets to raise money for every correctly spelled word from a list of 100 words.

The generosity of family and friends brought in enough money that each of the 78 students shopping had $20 to spend on the child they were shopping for.

The third grade students, along with parent and staff chaperones, shopped through the store for just the right items to help brighten a child’s Christmas morning.
