Submitted by State Senator Darrel Aubertine (D-Cape Vincent)
State Senator Darrel J. Aubertine will host the 2010 Oswego County Senior Health and Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fulton War Memorial to put under one roof a wide variety of services and products available to seniors in our communities. The event is being co-sponsored by Rural Health Network of Oswego County and RSVP of Oswego County.
“We’ve had great success with this event in Watertown over the years and I am proud to have sponsored this event here in Oswego County again for the second year in a row,” Sen. Aubertine said. “This health and information fair has proven to be both fun and informative. It gives seniors access to information and provides an opportunity to get out for an afternoon to see friends, get a check-up, and have a free lunch, all while learning about the services and products available throughout Oswego County.”
The event is set to have more than 40 vendors in attendance, lunch will be provided by Oswego County Opportunities’ Senior Nutrition Services kitchen, and members of the Cayuga Cutups and Fulton Shirts & Skirts will provide live entertainment along with a square dancing instructional session.
Sen. Aubertine has worked to protect the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage, or EPIC, program and the enhanced STAR exemption for seniors. He has worked with his colleagues in the Senate to pass a series of bills addressing the needs of seniors, including a bill to expand eligibility for EPIC to more seniors, along with bills to provide better access to voting, prompt information on property tax exemptions, and better protections against abuse.
Last year’s Oswego County Senior Health and Information Fair was held on the SUNY Oswego Campus and drew hundreds of seniors.
