The Distance Learning program at Oswego County BOCES, through Onondaga Community College will be offering a Baby Signs for Professionals Course on May 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Distance Learning rooms at Central Square’s Paul V. Moore High School, Hannibal High School and John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix.
The course will be taught by instructor Kathy Hobson. Cost for the course is $75 and includes all course materials. The course is open to the public.
During the three-hour Distance Learning workshop, participants will learn how to use sign language effectively with both typical and special needs children. By the end of the program participants will have learned the proven benefits of using the Baby Signs Program, thirty-two of the most useful signs for infants, toddlers and special needs children, the best strategies for teaching signs and how to incorporate signs into daily classroom routines and therapy sessions.
Speech therapists will have the opportunity to earn .3CEUs for this workshop. Following the workshop, attendees who wish to earn their CEUs must complete a short post-test and remit a $10.00 fee.
Therapists and childcare providers may also use training hours to meet education requirements.
