Back and Forth Battle ends in defeat for Oswego State women’s basketball team

New Paltz, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team dropped a 68-62 contest to New Paltz on the road Tuesday night.

Oswego’s loss drops the team to 6-10 on the season and 2-7 in SUNYAC play while the Hawks improve to 3-12, 1-7.

At 5:41 in the first half, Heather Hebert finished a layup off a pass from Paula Egelston to give the Lakers a 19-15 lead.

New Paltz responded by outscoring Oswego 15-5 to end the half, forcing the Lakers to head to the break trailing 30-24.

Oswego would not retreat, however, finding a way to knot the score at 41-41 just over seven minutes into the second period on a 3-pointer from Jenn Robbins. A Hebert traditional 3-point play at 11:42 regained the lead for the Lakers at 44-43.

The two teams traded leads over the next 10 minutes; with Oswego taking a 60-59 edge at 1:44 after a Tayler Sorell trey. It was the last advantage for the Lakers as New Paltz went on a 9-2 run over the final 1:44 to earn the victory.

Robbins led the way with 18 points while Hebert added 15. Also in double digits for Oswego was Lauren Nunziato, tallying 10 points on the night. Paula Egelston contributed with game-highs for rebounds (13) and assists (7).

Oswego will have six days off before trying to bounce back at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Geneseo for a conference matchup.
