Barbara Jean (Eddicus) Bullard, 75, of County Route 3, Granby Center, died January 28, 2011 at Oswego Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Syracuse to Peter and Bertha Stowell Eddicus. She attended Syracuse City Schools.
Barbara spent most of her career in the grocery business, working as a meat wrapper for several grocery stores. She worked for many years in the meat department of Fran Mirabito’s supermarket in Fulton before accepting a position with Price Chopper where she ended her career in retirement. She met her husband, Dutch Bullard, when they worked together in the meat department of the ACME grocery store.
Together, they operated Bullard’s IGA on Hannibal Street in Fulton from the late 1960’s through the early 1970’s where they had a successful business and touched the lives of many.
Barbara enjoyed cooking and baking. Her birthday and wedding cakes were important parts of family gatherings and her recipes have been passed to her children and grandchildren. She was always there for family and friends who needed help; she gave even when she had little to give. She listened intently, cared deeply, guided gently and loved endlessly. She enjoyed bingo, card games and slot machines. Before injuries and illness overtook her, she enjoyed swimming and tennis. Most of all she loved people.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Dutch, who died in 2009 and by brothers, Glenford and Frederick Eddicus; and by a sister, Madeline Laskowski.
She is survived by her sons, David (Lynn) Bullard of Fulton and Brian (Patricia) Bullard of Sinclairville, NY; grandchildren, Erica Miller and Justin Bullard of Sinclairville and Daniel and Scott Bullard of Fulton; great-grandson, Jonathan Miller of Sinclairville; sisters, Leola Craig, Audrey Brown and Delores Willey all of Syracuse and Patricia Manning of Florida; brother-in-law, Horace Bullard of Granby Center; sister-in-law, Maureen Eddicus of Constantia; many nieces and nephews to whom she was very close.
At Barbara’s request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. A memorial service and luncheon in her honor will be held at 12 noon, March 26, 2011 in the Parish Hall of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 153 South First Street, Fulton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Meal Program at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 153 South First Street, Fulton, 13069.
Barbara’s family would like to give special thanks to her doctor, Robert Morgan; the nurses of the 3rd and 4th floors of Oswego Hospital and the nurses and staff of Seneca Hill Manor.
The family also thanks Barbara’s niece, Patricia Bullard of Baldwinsville and nephew, Everett “Bud” Hubbard of Hannibal for their many years of assistance with Barbara’s needs.
