Bart Miano, 77, of Hannibal, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at Upstate University Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Hannibal to the late Joseph and Myrtle Miano, he remained a lifetime resident of the area. Bart made a proud living as a self-employed muck farmer and was the owner and operator of Miano Farms in Hannibal, where he raised lettuce and onions for decades. He was a member of Cooperative Extension and Oswego County Vegetable Growers Association from 1961-2001, before entering retirement.
Bart found enjoyment watching sports on TV from his chair, especially NASCAR races. Over the years, Bart and his wife dedicated their time raising Labrador Retrievers to be trained as guide dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Carmela Deacons, Kathryn Caprin, and Gloria May Shoults; and by a brother, Dominick Miano.
Surviving Bart are his devoted wife of 49 years, Barbara (Wiltse) Miano; two sons, Thomas (Kathryn) Miano, of Oswego and James Miano, of Hannibal; a grandson, Brandon Miano, of Hannibal; a brother, Joseph (Lillian) Miano, of Hannibal; a sister-in-law, Nancy Miano, of Arizona; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. Spring burial will be at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hannibal Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
