Beatrice Smith, 90


OSWEGO, NY РBeatrice Smith, 90, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, on Wednesday  May 20, 2015.

Born in Fulton on October 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the later Arthur E. and Lola B. (Lamphere) Bickford.

She grew up in the Fulton – Martville area and attended Fulton and Hannibal schools.

She lived for many years in the north Scriba and New Haven area, relocating in 1985 to Oswego Town to be near family.

Beatrice was always a determined and hardworking woman.

After working many mediocre jobs, while at the same time caring for her large family, she resumed her education by attending night school.

After finishing her GED and taking numerous business courses, she went to work for the Oswego County Department of Motor Vehicles in 1967.

She was a dedicated employee 18 years before retiring as their chief clerk in 1985.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting (especially outfits for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren), watching birds and other forms of wildlife and gardening.

But most of all, she cherished the moments spent with all of her family.

Beatrice was a longtime member of the Oswego Alliance Church.

She spent her lifetime as a dedicated, loving mother and grandmother.

Over the many years, she has touched each of our lives in a special was and will be forever loved and greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Grant Lindsley of Tennessee, Donald (Bonnie) Smith, Colleen Kaiser-Ferguson, Douglas (Judy) Smith and Eileen Sloyka, all of Oswego; daughter-in-law, Wendy Smith; sisters, Ellen Hawley and Kay (Ed) Coe; sister-in-law, Sheila Bickford; former sons-in-law, Robert Ferguson and James Sloyka; grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Matthew, Dennis Jr., Jeremy and Tiffany Smith, Christine Farrell, Robin Burdick, Jessica Morgan, Chrystal Rose, Kimberly Jada, Margaret Kaiser, James Ferguson, Stacey Bracy, Grant Lindsley Jr., Michael Sloyka and Yvonne; great-grandchildren, Christine, Jessica, Kayla, Natasha, Nicholas, Arianna, Evan, Morgan, Zachary, Jacob, Natalie, Foley, Aubree, Leah, Elijah, and Miranda; great-great-grandchildren, Alyson, Emily, Eddie, Liam, Hannah, Jonathan and Bowen.

Beatrice was predeceased by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; her beloved son, Dennis S. Smith; daughter-in-law, Pamela Lindsley; and dearly loved granddaughter, Beth M. Ferguson.

Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. on June 1 at Nelson Funeral Home, Oswego.

Services will be held 11 a.m. on June 2 at the Oswego Alliance Church, Thompson Road.
