On a sunny day in August David Engle and his girlfriend Audrey Pisiak, from the Central Square area, took off for a flight to visit a friend in Manlius in Engle’s two place light sport aircraft. What should have been a perfect day turned into something neither were expecting. On takeoff from the friend’s home, for reasons unknown, Engle’s plane did not clear some trees and was thrown down through them to the ground.
Engle was airlifted to University Hospital while Pisiak was taken by ambulance. Pisiak had shattered her femur, punctured a lung, broken ribs, lacerated spleen and obtained a severe burn on her leg that required a graft. Engle was in ICU for over a week with head injuries, broken ribs, punctured lung, torn shoulder, broken jaw and teeth, and other injuries as well.
Engle is a self employed machinist with no insurance. Engle is in need of more surgeries for rebuilding his jaw, fixing his teeth and possible surgery to repair the nerve damage in his shoulder. In order to help Engle get these necessary surgeries, friends, fellow pilots, and family are banding together with a spaghetti dinner and bake sale.
