Birdlebough Students Earn Recognition for Artwork


PHOENIX – John C. Birdlebough High School student artwork was honored by the Central New York Scholastic Art Awards program with several accolades as part of this year’s competition.

“Heavenly,” by Miranda Bowersox earned a Silver Key in the CNY Scholastic Art Awards program. Bowersox was one of more than a dozen Phoenix students whose artwork was recognized as part of the competition.

Nearly 5,100 pieces of art were submitted from school districts throughout the region, and a panel of judges recently selected the winners, including more than a dozen JCB artists.

Their work will be among the 1,300 pieces on display through March 3 at the Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College.

The Gold Key winners from JCB were Chloe Koegel and Kristine Rowe (photography) and Hans Goodnow (ceramics).

Silver Key Awards were presented to Miranda Bowersox (photography), Chloe Goodnow (comic art), Ciera Bell (art portfolio, ceramics and glass), and Nicole Henry (painting).

Honorable Mention went to Bronwyn Bishop, Kaylee Henry and Nicole Henry (photography), Ciera Bell and Ammarae Eusepi (ceramics), Gianna DeRoberts (drawing and illustration) and Kaitlyn Greer (painting).

The JCB art department lauded the students’ efforts and encouraged the community to view the exhibit, which is free and open to the public.
