Blessings In A Backpack Kicks Off New Year

OSWEGO – The third National Blessings in a Backpack Day was celebrated Thursday (Sept. 15) in Oswego with Mayor Billy Barlow, school board president Lynda Sereno, board member Aimee Callen and many others packing bags with food for local children for the weekend.

“We’re kicking off our fourth year!” said Melissa Russell, program coordinator. “It’s going to be our best yet.”

This year marks the fourth year for the Oswego chapter of Blessings in a Backpack.

They began in 2013 with only 50 students and have grown to feed 150 this year.

Blessings in a Backpack is in three elementary schools with the hopes of adding another school within the next year.
