UPDATE 12:15 p.m.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Oswego County Coroner’s Office and the County’s Cause and Origin Team, are continuing their investigation into a fatal fire that occurred overnight in the town of Scriba.
The apartment complex consisted of four apartments that were occupied by 16 people at the time the fire was reported at approximately 11:09 p.m. Wednesday.
Fifteen occupants, including seven children, ages six and under, were able to escape the fire.
The one victim has been tentatively identified as Robert P. Rose, age 25, of Apartment B, 6 Beech Drive.
Mr. Rose was reported to have been unable to escape the fire and investigators located a body in the proximity of Mr. Rose’s apartment.
The victim was transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Positive identification of the victim and cause of death results are not expected until possibly next week.
Investigators remain on the scene and are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
UPDATE 10 a.m.
Members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire located at 6 Beech Drive, town of Scriba, at approximately 11 p.m. on Dec.8, 2010.
Upon arrival the structure, a multiple apartment complex, was observed to be fully engulfed in flames.
Two adult female victims and two children were found standing on a second story balcony.
The children were reportedly lowered to the ground while the adult victims jumped.
One of the women incurred a minor injury and was transported by ambulance to Oswego Hospital.
The occupants of the four apartments have been accounted for with the exception of one male.
A body has been recovered from one of the apartments and remains unidentified at this time pending a report from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The fire remains under investigation at this time as members of the Cause and Origin Team continue to seek the cause of the fire.
Activated and assisting in the investigation were members of the following fire departments: Scriba, Volney, Mexico, Oswego City, Oswego Town, New Haven, Minetto and Noevlis; as well as Oswego City Fire and Ambulance, Town of Scriba Highway Department, Oswego DPW, Red Cross, National Grid, Oswego County Fire Coordinator, Oswego County Coroner’s Office, the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office and Oswego County Cause and Origin Team.

UPDATE: A body has reportedly been recovered from the fire scene.
OSWEGO, NY – Dozens of firefighters are battling a structure fire at the corner of City Line Road and Beech Drive.
It is unknown currently if anyone was inside the multiple-family dwelling; initial reports indicated it was possible one man was reportedly inside.
The fire was reported shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 8) at 6 Beech Drive, located just across City Line Road (Oswego) in the town of Scriba.
Firefighters from Scriba, Volney, Mexico, Oswego Town, New Haven, Minetto and Novelis responded to the blaze.
The Oswego City Ambulance stood by at the scene.
No other details are available now.
