Oswego’s varsity boys volleyball team pounded North Rose-Wolcott ford a straight-sets victory, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, in the team’s final non-league match.
Coach Mike Shea said his team struggled in the early parts of the first two games, letting NR-W get out to a lead of four or five points before settling down and taking control of the game.
“We won’t be able to get away with that with a lot of teams,” he said. “The main thing, though, is that we dictated the flow of the match. When we stayed focused we were good.”
It was another balanced attack from the Bucs, as Kevin O’Connor did the setting (19 assists) and Gary Carpentier got the kills (12), but several players recorded aces or blocks. Carpentier also recored 13 digs.
Said Shea: “The big difference from this team and last year’s team is the ability to anticipate the attack and be in a good position to dig the ball. We’re becoming a scrappy defensive team, which is what we’ll need in order to beat teams with maybe a little more skill.”
